FROM BLANK PAGE TO FINAL DRAFT

Practical support to help you shape, strengthen and finish your book

Writing a book can be exciting, but it can also become messy, frustrating and difficult to finish.

You might have a strong idea but no clear structure. You might have started writing and lost momentum. You might have a draft, but you're not sure whether it's working. Or you might know there's a powerful personal story you want to tell, but don't know how to turn it into a readable, engaging book.

This is where WKW Productions can help.

I offer clear, practical writing support for writers who want to make real progress, whether you're starting from an idea, working through a draft, or trying to understand what your manuscript needs next.

FIRST DRAFT PROGRAMME

For writers who have an idea, but need help turning it into a workable book.

This is the most structured writing support I offer. It's designed for writers who don't just want general advice. They want a clear route into the book, regular support and practical accountability.

The aim is to help you move from a loose idea to a planned, structured and active writing project, with a realistic route towards a complete first draft.

Depending on the project, this can include:

  • developing the central idea

  • clarifying what the book is really about

  • identifying the likely reader

  • shaping the structure

  • planning chapters or key story sections

  • setting realistic writing targets

  • feedback on new writing

  • regular one-to-one mentoring sessions

  • practical next steps between sessions

This isn't about pretending a book can be made easy. It can't.

But if you've been circling the same idea for months or years, a structured programme can help you stop drifting and start writing with purpose.

MANUSCRIPT REPORTS

For writers who already have a draft, or part of a draft, and need a clear outside view.

A manuscript report gives you structured feedback on the bigger issues in your work. It's not a proofread or a line edit. The focus is on whether the writing, structure and story are working, and what you may need to tackle next.

There are two main options:

Opening Submission Report

For the first 3 chapters or first 5,000 words of your manuscript.

This can be useful if you're preparing to submit to agents, entering a competition, testing the strength of your opening, or trying to work out whether the book starts in the right place.

The report can look at:

  • the strength of the opening

  • clarity of premise

  • character introduction

  • voice and tone

  • pacing

  • reader engagement

  • early structure issues

  • obvious problems that may weaken the submission

  • practical next steps

Full Manuscript Report

For writers with a completed draft who want a broader view of the whole book.

The report can look at:

  • overall structure

  • pacing

  • character development

  • clarity of story or argument

  • chapter flow

  • reader engagement

  • areas that may need cutting, expanding or reworking

  • strengths to preserve

  • priority issues to address in the next draft

A manuscript report is often a good next step if you know something isn't quite working, but you're too close to the material to see the problem clearly.

ONE-TO-ONE MENTORING

For writers who want regular support, feedback and accountability while they work on their book.

Mentoring is usually offered as a 3-month programme. This gives us enough time to understand the project, identify the key issues and build some momentum.

A typical 3-month mentoring programme includes:

  • 2 one-to-one mentoring sessions per month

  • feedback on up to 1,500 words per month

  • practical writing targets between sessions

  • support with structure, story, character or theme

  • clear next steps after each session

Mentoring can be useful if you're stuck, losing confidence, overwhelmed by the size of the project, or struggling to make consistent progress.

The focus is practical. We look at where the book is now, where you're trying to take it, and what needs to happen next.

This isn't vague encouragement. It's structured support to help you keep moving.

MEMOIR & GHOSTWRITING SUPPORT

Some books need more than advice.

If you're trying to tell a personal story, family story or memoir, you may need help shaping raw material into something that works on the page. With more than 20 years’ experience in documentary filmmaking, I can help you create a lasting momento for your family and generations to come.

For selected projects, I offer a premium memoir and ghost-writing partnership. This can involve interviews, story development, structure, writing, editing and careful handling of sensitive material.

Every project is different, so this service is quoted individually based on scope, word count, interviews, research and timescale.

This is a significant commitment, so I only take on projects where I believe I can genuinely add value.
